Australian Institute Quantity Surveyors (AQIS) Policy on the use of the AIQS Logo, Name and Membership Status

All AIQS members and QS firms employing AIQS members should carefully read the below policy and ensure they are abiding by it in their websites, business stationery and promotional material.
AIQS Membership Status and Postnominals
Some unqualified people or other discipline practitioners are misrepresenting themselves as Quantity Surveyors to the confusion of many clients. Properly qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyors (QS) need to distinguish themselves from these imposters.
Membership of the AIQS and subsequently the use of AIQS postnominals, the AIQS name and Logo are therefore important tools for members to clearly identify themselves as qualified, experienced and accountable professional QS.
The following rules therefore apply to the use of AIQS membership and postnominals:
- Members must clearly identify their grade of AIQS membership when dealing with clients to avoid misleading the client about the member’s qualifications and experience.
- Member’s business stationery, advertising, website, promotional materials, etc may refer to membership of the AIQS but where so done it must also state the grade of membership eg a Probationer member can say they are “Proud to be an AIQS Member” but must then state their grade of membership in following introductory text or working.
- The following postnominals may be used by appropriate grade members:
- FAIQS Fellow members of the AIQS
- AAIQS Associate members of the AIQS
- AIQS Affil Affiliate members of the AIQs
- There are no postnominals for other grades of AIQS members. However, other grades may use the following descriptor under their names:
- Probationer Member AIQS
- Technician Member AIQS
- Student Member AIQS
Use of the AIQS Logo and Name by Companies and Members
- Members of the AIQS are encouraged to use the AIQS logo to promote the Institute and their membership of it.
- However, the underlying principle to the use of the AIQS logo and name, is that it
“must only be used in a manner that does not mislead any person as to the status of the AIQS member or the firm employing an AIQS member.”
- Use of the AIQS logo and name is therefore subject to the following rules:
- The AIQS logo must be the current logo provided electronically to members by the AIQS National office upon request of the member.
- The logo must not be used to imply AIQS endorsement of any specific product or service.
The logo may only be used without qualification by a company or firm that has:
- At least one director or partner who is a corporate member of the AIQS, or
- Employs QS staff the majority of whom are corporate members of the AIQS.
- The logo may be used with appropriate qualification where the company or firm has:
-
At least one director or partner who is an Affiliate, Technician or Probationer member of the AIQS, or
- Employs QS staff the majority of whom are Affiliate, Technician or Probationer members of the AIQS.
-
The appropriate qualification required of the company / firm must clearly state the grade of membership of the staff who are non corporate AIQS members ie Affiliate, Technician or Probationer
- Companies or firms where the majority of their QS staff are not AIQS members, may not use the AIQS logo or name to promote their business in any away.
- Student members may not use the AIQS logo or name in any promotional manner, except as part of their CV / Resume in which they must clearly note that they are Student Members.
- Companies or firms that employ AIQS student members cannot use the AIQS logo or name, if the only members they employ are Student members.
- Members, companies or firms who do not abide by AIQS policies or guidelines must not use the AIQS logo and name.
